| Author Doris McClellan earned the Bachelor of Science degree from Sul Ross State University and the Master of Education at Hardin-Simmons University, in preparation for her career as an elementary teacher and counselor. She is a student and observer of plant and animal life in West Texas and the Trans-Pecos region and resides with her husband, Bill, in the living natural history museum that is the Ellwood Spade Headquarters.
